Announcement!

I have spent a lot of time this year figuring out where to take my writing and how to grow this craft. To me, writing often feels like a spiritual act, a place where there is a possibility for benediction when it is difficult to find it elsewhere. Sharing this writing, then, feels like a call to collective prayer, bringing hearts and minds together on a journey towards something better; something like hope.
In the course of this journey, I continue to meet different versions of myself: some that are vulnerable and honest, some deep in the cesspit of grief, and others breaking free into the light. Some of these versions I accept, others I adore, and a few I despise. In short, it is very much like life.
But writing, just as it is a spiritual practice, is also a muscle, and muscles need work. They need to be trained, and they need to be fed.
This year, I am trying to do both so that I can be a better writer for myself, first and foremost. One of these steps is returning to this canvas I started almost a year ago to learn how to play with writing - to take the seriousness out of it.
There will be other announcements coming up over the course of the year, but for now, let’s begin with this:
1. Expect two posts a month from this Substack, starting in April. One will be a long-form piece that will remain free. It may or may not discuss “important” or “intelligent” things, however you choose to define those words.
2. The second will be for paid subscribers only. This will focus on the cultural inspirations of the day, more intimate reflections, and excerpts of never-before-seen writing.
I hope to respect this cadence for the rest of the year. To everyone who believes that this writing is worth paying for: thank you. Writing is a constant energy exchange with the world and with the self, and it is always humbling to know that people respect your craft enough to spend their time and money on it. To everyone who continues to support me in ways both big and small, it means the world.
I want to continue writing with all of my heart, which is to say, I hope to be praying with all of my heart. There is really no other way to live.
